Texas Cavity Searchin’ Trooper Kelly Helleson is About to Get the Boot

Dallas, Texas

Remember the Texas trooper who was being investigated for performing a body cavity search along a highway in Irving? It looks like the trooper, Kelly Helleson, is about to get a Texas-sized boot.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Tom Vinger says agency director Steve McCraw has made a preliminary determination to terminate Trooper Kelly Helleson. Vinger, in a statement Wednesday, said Helleson will have the opportunity to meet with McCraw before her firing is final.

Helleson, along with Trooper David Ferrell were put on paid suspension back in December as the case awaits review by a Dallas County grand jury.

Texas Rangers helped investigate last July's traffic stop in Irving. An Irving woman and her adult niece on Dec. 17 sued both troopers and McCraw claiming the search was illegal and humiliating. No drugs were found.

Vinger did not have contact information for Helleson.
