Bexar County, Texas
A China Grove police officer is on administrative duty after failing to register as a sex offender.
According to the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, Daniel Casas was charged with indecency with a child by contact in 1991. Casas is one of thousands of people who now have to register as sex offenders due to a change in the law.
"He had a conviction back in 1991," said Bexar County Sheriff's Detective Louis Antu. "Anyone that was convicted in 1997 and later years were the only ones that had to register. However the attorney general made a change and now it's back to 1970"
When Casas did not show up to register last week, a warrant for his arrest wasissued and he turned himself in. He was hired in China Grove as a police officer before the law changed.
