Brian Bachmann: Brazos Valley Constable Killed In The Line of Duty

Brazos Valley Constable Brian Bachmann

College Station, Texas

Usually, we focus on the misdeeds of law enforcement. Not today, though. I think it is only appropriate to take a moment and turn our attention to one of the good ones who has fallen in the line of duty.

On Monday, shortly after lunchtime, Brazos Valley Constable Brian Bachmann arrived at a home close to Texas A&M University to serve an eviction notice. As he was approaching the home, he was ambushed by the tenant, Thomas Caffall.

Other officers responding to calls concerning the gunfire arrived to find Constable Bachmann unresponsive in the yard, with a wound to the chest. They too came under fire and engaged in a battle that lasted for an extended period. During this time, because of Caffall’s firing rampage, help was unable to reach Constable Brian Bachmann.

In the aftermath, three people were dead, including Constable Brian Bachmann, an innocent landlord and the shooter, Thomas Caffall.

Other police officers were injured, as well as a woman in town simply helping her daughter move-in for college.

A look at the gunman’s Facebook page reveals the danger that existed, including photos of weapons.

Shooter: Thomas Caffall

According to his family, they feared something like this would happen. Unfortunately, Constable Brian Bachmann wasn’t aware of this information, or the gunman’s fondness for guns.

Brian Bachmann was well-respected in the community and by his fellow officers. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
